Obesity both in England and America has become a sign of the times. During the 1980′s and 1990′s fast food and takeaways were the thing to eat. There was little thought of weight and obesity back then, burger joints such as Wimpy and MacDonalds popped up on the high street and were seen as the place to be. Never before had there been such an overwhelming demand for burgers and chips. Frozen food and microwave meals were eaten by households, these meals meant an end to the pain staking task of slaving over a hot cooker for hours, just 5 minutes in the microwave and hey presto lunch was served. But the glory of eating these foods has been short lived and have left some people with major health problems. More and more people are now opting for surgery in order to get rid of the pounds. Procedures such as gastric bands and tummy tucks and become a quick fix in the operating theatre. There are many hospitals and clinics which provide these services, but be warned that whilst gastric banding is a quick fix, it can lead to problems in its self, so be sure to look into the procedure before having it done. Not everyone can have bariatric surgery as they are just too big for any major operation and any surgery has a risk of death, but the bigger the patient then the higher the risk of death. After having any surgery there is a great amount of support in place to ensure the patient is kept comfortable at all times. Nurses and specialist doctors are available to ensure that all goes smoothly before and after the operation. Always look into the procedure and consider the risks carefully before ploughing ahead.
